The Potala
The Potala is Lhasa's cardinal landmark and a wonder of eastern architecture. It was the residence of the Dalai Lama and the seat of the Tibetan government since the fifth Dalai Lama in the 17th century.

 

Photo Sera Monastery  


Monks debate in Sera Monastery
The Sera monastery, 5 km north of Lhasa, was founded already in 1419. It's once huge population of around 5000 monks has now been reduced to several hundred. 

 

Photo Jokhang Prayers  


    Tibetan pilgrims
Tibetan pilgrims show their devotion at the entrance of the Jokhang temple by prostration, which takes normally from sunrise to sunset. The Jokang was founded already in the 7th century and is Tibet's most revered religious structure.

 

Photo Ramoche Temple    Little Sister


The Ramoche temple is also called the little sister of the Jokhang temple. Both were built at the same time, but the Ramoche originally in Chinese style and later rebuilt in Tibetan style.
